Call for State Representatives begins October, 2006.

Interested in becoming or nominating someone from your state to represent Independent Liberal Art Institutions in AILACTE? Please contact your Regional Representative as listed above.

Dear Institutional Representative:
I would like to personally thank you for being an institutional member of AILACTE. I wanted to refer you to the AILACTE Fall 2006 newsletter on the AILACTE web page at http://www.ailacte.org/viewsandnews/AILACTE_Fall06newsletter.pdf. In the newsletter the new mission statement adopted by AACTE and AILACTE is highlighted. AILACTE plays an important role in presenting the voice of independent and liberal arts colleges in issues relating to educator preparation. As private and independent institutions, we share many of the same questions and concerns regarding the increasing focus on accountability and teacher testing, alternative routes to certification, and the impact of federal legislation such as No Child Left Behind. AILACTE membership provides a means to come together and share concerns, ideas, and experiences with members from institutions in other regions and states. As I discuss these issues at AILACTE events, I have been encouraged by the impact of AILACTE educator preparation programs on the candidates they prepare, and ultimately the P-12 students they teach and counsel.

AILACTE is beginning a new effort to involve member institutions in discussions regarding state issues impacting educator preparation programs. I would like to ask your assistance in nominating a faculty member who could serve as an AILACTE State Representative. State Representatives will be invited to meet at a special forum at the AILCTE annual meeting on February 24, 2007 in New York to share their perspectives on issues impacting educator preparation programs in their states. State Representatives will also receive a reduced registration fee for the AILACTE annual meeting. The AILACTE Executive Committee views the position of State Representatives as an excellent way for faculty at member institutions to become involved in AILACTE, be exposed to broader issues impacting education, and share their experiences.

Please return the nomination letter with contact information for a faculty member at your institution who you believe would benefit from serving as an AILACTE State Representative. I will contact nominees to further discuss the role of an AILACTE State Representative, and to personally invite them to the AILACTE Annual Meeting. Thank you for your assistance in identifying faculty members, and for supporting the efforts of AILACTE.

Sincerely,
Carleen Vande Zande
AILACTE Midwestern Representative
