From the President:

AILACTE E-news: February 2012

Dear AILACTE Members,

It is hard to believe that this is the last time I will be writing “News from the President.” It has been my pleasure to lead this wonderful organization of colleagues who are dedicated to preparing excellent teachers with strong foundations in the liberal arts. Preparing the next generation of professional educators has become even more complex than when I began this role just two years ago. Through this time we have been tested by many who would see teacher preparation leave the academy at the same time as the number of accountability measures expected from us has risen. I believe that AILACTE is needed now more than ever to help institutions like ours remain informed of these challenges and the innovative practices we employ to address them.

Our February annual meeting in Chicago, February 17-18, 2012, is designed for this specific purpose—to articulate the Impact of the Liberally Educated Teacher and to inform us of engaging and effective practices our member institutions have developed around the globe. It is not too late to join us. Please contact Jennifer Knox directly at jentknox@gmail.com to register. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet other AILACTE institution members and hear how issues such as teacher performance assessments are changing educator preparation.

It has been my privilege to serve with an outstanding executive committee. I am so grateful to David Coffman, Dwight Watson, Jackie McDowell, Mark Hogan, Anne Bucalos, Debra Colley, Trish Parrish, Gwendolyn Middlebrooks, Kim Koeppen, Frank Kline, and Mike Hillis over the past two years for their insight and commitment to the AILACTE organization. I leave knowing Mark will lead our AILACTE organization exceptionally well as our new president.

One of the greatest assets to our association is Jennifer Knox, our executive assistant. She has accomplished so much in her short time with us to provide our member institutions and the committee with outstanding service. I am so grateful to her for her tremendous continuing assistance.

Sincerely,

Jill Lederhouse
